To honor the inclusion of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth as the third sponsoring congregation of the healthcare ministries of CHRISTUS Health, a new history wall was unveiled in CHRISTUS Health’s existing Heritage Center.

Adjacent to the history wall of CHRISTUS Health’s founding sponsors, the Congregations of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston and of San Antonio, the new wall tells the story of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and weaves together the ministry stories and healing legacy shared by all three religious congregations.

In his opening comments, Gerry Heeley STD, Senior Vice President and Chief Mission Officer for CHRISTUS Health thanked the contributions of Sister Marie Kielanowicz, CSFN and Sister Rebecca Sullivan, CSFN who worked with Deborah Simmen, System Director of Mission Initiatives and Spirituality at CHRISTUS Health to design the new wall. He reminded all present that the history and heritage of CHRISTUS Health is an integral aspect of the ministry but it is not the end to the story.

“At CHRISTUS, we understand that our heritage helps to inspire the work of our leaders, Associates  and care providers.

This space and the stories we tell are opportunities for deeper understanding and appreciation for the healing legacy entrusted to us, but more importantly, we hope, that it is an invitation to all those who serve within CHRISTUS Health to live out that legacy and the spirituality of the sponsors in new and creative ways, every day, and in all ways.”

Congregational leaders from each of CHRISTUS Health’s three sponsoring congregations; Sister Kevina Keating, CCVI (Houston), Sister Tere Maya, C.C.V.I. (San Antonio), and Sister Barbara Jean Wojnicki, CSFN participated in the service which culminated in a blessing and dedication of the space by CHRISTUS Health system board member, Father Charles Bouchard, OP.
