Saturday, October 14, marked the 13th Annual Nun Run. More than 250 participants took to the roads for the 40-mile, Blue Knights police escorted motorcycle ride with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word from St. Austin Center in Houston to Topwater Grill in San Leon. A fun-filled day was enjoyed by all as CHRISTUS Foundation and the Sisters, raised funds for schoolchildren in 20 CHRISTUS School Clinics. The funds raised will provide healthcare services, immunizations, mental health counseling and school supplies to children in low-income schools. Businessman and philanthropist, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale emceed the event as participants enjoyed free breakfast from Chik-Fil-A, live music, and a hoola hoop contest for the children. Ending the event with a fabulous lunch and raffles at Topwater Grill. Last school year because of the support of the Nun Run more than 12,900 on-campus medical and counsel-ing visits were made to the clinics, parents were able to avoid missing work, and student absences were reduced.
