CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare (CFHC) hosted its 14th annual Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, March 20. The yearly event honors community leaders and raises funds for CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare’s healthcare programs. This year’s luncheon raised funds for the Foundation’s community clinics – CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic in Houston’s East End and CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic in Dickinson.

The Foundation proudly honored Dr. and Mrs. Donald. R. Collins, Jr. with the Legacy Award, an award given to recognize and honor those who have demonstrated commitment to continue the legacy of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word by promoting health and welfare to people in need.

Dr. Collins, a certified plastic surgeon, has been integral to CFHC’s success since his first medical mission trip with CHRISTUS in 1993. He has served on the Foundation’s Board of Directors since 2006, and along with his wife, Janet, have chaired three successful events for the foundation.

“We are so honored to be the recipients of the 2018 Legacy Award from the CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare for our 25 year involvement with this group,” Dr. Collins said. “Janet and I appreciate the opportunity to support the mission and vision of such an important organization in the community and look forward to continuing our participation with the Foundation.”

The 14th annual Spring Luncheon welcomed special guests, former U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, retired American Astronaut, Mark Kelly. Kelly, also a combat pilot in Iraq and commander of the final flight of Space Shuttle Endeavor, spoke on how focus, dedication and persistence can help you succeed in any environment while applying the resolve and resilience as displayed by his wife in her recovery from the 2011 assassination attempt on her life. Praised be the Incarnate Word for the blessings of everyone who attended the luncheon to support the healing ministry of Christ.
