Sisters who participated in the Healthcare Governance Workshop including the three co-sponsoring Congregations of CHRISTUS Health.

by Sister Mary McHale

A special word of gratitude goes to Sister Joyce Susan who was one of the three organizers of this workshop for the three co-sponsoring congregations of CHRISTUS Health – Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, CCVI, Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, C.C.V.I., and Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, CSFN. The purpose of the workshop was to introduce members of these congregations to the ministry of service on boards and to refresh long term board members on Best Practices when serving on a board. This section was presented by Sisters Thea Krause, CSFN, Yolanda Tarango, C.C.V.I., and Celeste Trahan, CCVI.

The first evening the three congregational leaders: Sisters Kevina Keating, CCVI, Kathleen Maciej, CSFN, and Teresa Maya, C.C.V.I., gave presentations on their respective Congregational Charisms. The similarity of our call to serve Jesus suffering unites us deeply. Seventeen CCVIs from Houston participated in the workshop.

There was also an overview on Safety and Quality at CHRISTUS Muguerza Hospital in Mexico by their CEO Sandra Ceniceros Guillen., and input on Governance and the structure of CHRISTUS Health by Sister Kathleen Coughlin, and Finances and Stewardship Roles of a Board of Trustees by Sister Leticia Rodriguez. It was a very informative workshop, and getting to meet the sisters from the other congregations and celebrating Eucharist together in the beautiful Incarnate Word chapel were some of the highlights during our time together.
