Empower our students and families through proficiency in English literacy.

St. Austin Literacy Program

St. Austin Literacy Program, a ministry of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston (CCVI) is dedicated to serving adult men and women in Houston’s East End through a variety of literacy classes in the English language. Classes range from beginning to advanced English as a Second Language. Programs are also offered for students seeking USA Citizenship. All Literacy Program classes are held in the St. Austin Center building.

The program strives to be a holistic center that addresses many facets of students’ lives. Throughout the years, a variety of additional services have been offered to students and their families. They enjoy health and nutrition courses, family outings to the Houston Rodeo and area museums, and personal enrichment electives such as painting, knitting, and crafts.

A special time of prayer and reflection is offered to students as an outreach through Ruah, the retreat center at the nearby Villa de Matel, the Motherhouse of the Congregation.
